Accessibility Statement
CMU Portugal Academy — academy.cmuportugal.org Last updated: June 2, 2026
CMU Portugal Academy is committed to making our website accessible to as many people as possible, including users with disabilities. This statement explains where we stand and how to reach us if you experience a barrier.
1. Standard we aim for
Our target is WCAG 2.1 Level AA (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, published by the W3C). WCAG 2.1 AA is the standard recommended by the European Accessibility Directive (Directive (EU) 2016/2102) and required for public sector bodies under Portuguese Decree-Law No. 83/2018.
We are a private association operating in higher education, so we are not strictly bound by the public-sector requirement — but we adopt the same target because accessibility benefits everyone.
2. Current conformance status
The Website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 AA. “Partially conformant” means that some content does not yet fully meet the standard. We are actively working to improve.
Known issues we are tracking
[This section should be updated based on an actual audit — placeholders below]
- Some images may not yet have descriptive alt text
- Some PDF brochures may not be fully screen-reader accessible
- Color contrast on a small number of UI elements may fall below the 4.5:1 ratio
- Keyboard-only navigation may have gaps in certain interactive components
We are committed to fixing these within [TARGET DATE — e.g. end of Q3 2026].
3. What we have done so far
- Used semantic HTML headings, landmarks, and ARIA labels where relevant
- Provided text alternatives for most images
- Designed forms with associated labels and clear error messaging
- Chose typography (Barlow) and color contrast targeted at WCAG AA
- Made the site responsive across desktop, tablet, and mobile breakpoints
- Avoided auto-playing video or audio
4. Reporting a barrier
If you encounter content that is not accessible, or have a suggestion, please contact us:
- Email: info@academy.cmuportugal.org with subject line “Accessibility — [page or issue]”
- Response time: we aim to respond within 7 working days and to fix or workaround within 30 days
When reporting, please include: - The URL of the page where the issue occurred - A description of the barrier - Your assistive technology (screen reader, magnifier, etc.) if relevant - How we can reach you to follow up
5. Alternative formats
If you need information from this Website in an alternative format (large print, audio summary, plain-text email), please email us at info@academy.cmuportugal.org and we will arrange it.
6. Enforcement
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can escalate to the relevant Portuguese accessibility authority. [INSERT name of competent body if applicable — for higher education in Portugal this is typically AMA — Agência para a Modernização Administrativa: https://www.acessibilidade.gov.pt]
7. Ongoing review
We commit to reviewing this Statement at least once a year and after any major Website change.
Next scheduled review: [DATE — e.g. 2027-06-30]
